Port Chester Honors Phil Lesh with Street Renaming
In a heartwarming tribute to the late Phil Lesh, the Village of Port Chester has officially renamed a street in his honor. On Friday, the corner of Broad Street and Westchester Avenue was designated as Phil Lesh Lane, just one day before what would have been his 85th birthday.
The renaming ceremony took place with family, friends, and fans gathered to celebrate the life of the Grateful Dead’s iconic bassist, who passed away last year at the age of 84. The street that now bears his name holds deep significance, as Lesh performed an astounding 106 times at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, more than any other artist in the venue’s history.
Grahame Lesh, Phil’s son, expressed the family’s gratitude, saying, “We spent so much time here at the Capitol Theatre and in Port Chester…it’s just a really special weekend.”
Capitol Theatre Celebrates with Music
To continue the tribute, the Capitol Theatre is hosting four consecutive nights of music, with Grahame Lesh joining other talented musicians for unforgettable performances. It’s a true celebration of Phil Lesh’s lasting influence on both the Grateful Dead and the music world as a whole.
